Welcome to the Awards & Scholarships site for cardiothoracic surgery! The organizations represented on this site encourage participation, leadership, education, and research in cardiothoracic surgery. You’ll find numerous award and scholarship applications for cardiothoracic surgery residents, researchers and surgeons, general surgery residents, and medical students. Each organization has its own unique offerings, providing a variety of opportunities to become involved in and learn more about cardiothoracic surgery. 
As you navigate your way through this site, you may find that you are eligible for more than one scholarship.

If you would like to apply for more than one, be sure to submit a completed application for each individual scholarship. Please take note of varying application schedules, including open and close dates, review periods, and award announcement dates. 

The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) Looking to the Future Scholarship is for U.S. or Canadian medical students and general surgery residents interested in but not yet committed to a career in cardiothoracic surgery. This scholarship underwrites expenses for attendance at the STS Annual Meeting and provides mentorship to aspiring cardiothoracic surgeons. 

The application timeline for the STS Looking to the Future Scholarship is as follows:

Opens: August 12, 2016
Closes: September 23, 2016

The Thoracic Surgery Foundation (TSF) offers a variety of grants and educational scholarships for cardiothoracic surgery surgeons. 

2017 Awards Open: 07/15/16
2017 Awards Deadline: 10/15/16

The Southern Thoracic Surgical Association (STSA) offers scholarships for medical students, general surgery residents and cardiothoracic surgery residents to attend the STSA Annual Meeting. 

The application submission process for the 2016 STSA Brooks and Resident Scholarships is now closed.

Women in Thoracic Surgery (WTS) offers scholarships to attend the STS and STSA Annual Meetings for female medical students, general surgery residents and cardiothoracic surgery residents.  WTS also offers a traveling fellowship to support medical students and general surgery residents to gain exposure to women cardiothoracic surgeons.
